City Hall Ghost Subway Station in New York (United States)
Nowadays, it seems rather complicated to find vaults and candlesticks in a subway station in New York. But this was not the case in 1904, when this station – designed by Rafael Guastavino – opened directly under the City Hall (City Hall) of New York! Unfortunately, in larger cities, locals choose speed rather than style and the station was closed down in 1940 to make way for the Brooklyn Bridge station.
Today, members of the Transit Museum can visit the station, and some passengers can also enjoy a little view: take line 6 at Brooklyn Bridge and return to the past for a few moments, while the train passes through this underground gem before heading to the city center!
