Many people think the hole in the cap of Bic pens are there to keep the ink from drying out. Actually, it's a safety reason! The hole is actually there in the cap so that if a child were to ever swallow the small cap it would have a much lower risk of suffocation due to having a small airway through the cap.

This little hole in the window of planes actually has 2 purposes: First off, the hole helps when the plane climbs in altitude to balance the air pressure and not let the outside window do all the work. It's second purpose is that the extra air flow helps the windows from fogging up so when you fight for the window seat you can actually see out of it!
